Geoff Kennedy - Principal Architect

Geoff Kennedy

Principal Architect

Geoff Kennedy is Director and Principal Architect at Whiteroom Architects and has over two decades in the building industry, during which time he has overseen the design of hundreds of homes, each one custom designed for its people and place.

Geoff has a deep love of beautiful places and making homes that uplift the lives of the people who live there. He focuses on enduring quality – with the aim to make every site a better place.

Geoff was told at university that there are few good architects under forty years of age. At the time he thought, wow that’s old. Now his view is a little different. He now realises that experience contributes an awful lot to one’s ability to make good decisions. There are thousands of decisions to make when designing a building and now, at about that age, he feels that he has something really worth offering.

Geoff is inspired by Looking forward, looking back. A great song, by Slim Dusty, which resonates with how he creates architecture.

For Slim, it was “Making songs, from what I know, making sense of what I’ve seen.” For Geoff, it’s ‘Making buildings, from what I know’… and still, “making sense of what I’ve seen.”

Whiteroom Architects Design Philosophy

Whiteroom Architects has an unashamed love for luxury – making life better by adapting the places we live and work to suit the individual.

Luxury means different things to different people. For some, it’s a well-designed kitchen to make meals for their family. For others it’s the connection with nature found only on the peak of a mountain or a secluded beach.

In our practice, we are all about getting to know what ‘it’ is for each client and delivering a customised solution. From the conception and refinement of their ideas, through to their finished building and beyond as they use and bring their place to life.

We create durable homes that stand the test of time. We believe that a good building is not made in an afternoon. It’s refined over time through consideration of place, people, environment, and materials.

We believe the best materials for buildings have been around a while – stone, timber, bricks, concrete, plaster, steel, glass, and aluminium. These are the elements that endure and that we keep coming back for more of.

It’s the balance of all the elements that reflect the choices we make along the way, and how that creates the backdrop to lives of those who live there. A backdrop that aims to make their lives better – makes their story better.

Whiteroom Architects makes one-off homes that endure, making better lives for the people who live in them.

If any of this resonates with you, reach out and we can talk about your ideas.

Whiteroom Design Studios

Whiteroom Architects operate out of Dorrington House, Geoff’s family residence that was renovated to suit his multi-generational family.

We host meetings at Dorrington House, in-person at proposed buildings sites, and online using the latest meeting software. Once the project designs are underway our online meetings are a great way for users to share screens and to show design options, revisions, mark-ups, and changes in real time. We can even navigate around the 3D models of our design and show you the project from various angles.

The Whiteroom Team enjoy the flexibility that technology provides while valuing the benefits of face-to-face meetings and in-person site inspections. We look forward to welcoming you to our collaborative studio process.

Home Design Architecture Awards

Whiteroom Architects creates award winning designs. We recently designed a coastal Hamptons style home at the beachside suburb of Yaroomba on the Sunshine Coast.

On completion the home was nominated and then won the Master Builders Awards (MBA) award for best Sunshine Coast house. The MBA award recognised Whiteroom’s house design and start to finish project management for a $1.25 to $2m home build.

A contemporary Australian home that we designed in Wavell Heights, Brisbane also won an MBA award for best individual home from $1 million up to $1.5 million.

And a design for a Queenslander renovation was nominated in the National Architecture Awards.
